GOOGLE ANNOUNCES THE “SPEED UPDATE”
Since July 2018, websites with the best mobile performance will get high positions in the Google Search ranking
News about ranking comes down from Google: the fastest websites on mobile devices will be prioritized in Google Search results. The news is called “speed update” and it will change the factors that affect the websites index, taking in consideration also mobile performance.
Web speed was already a positively assessed parameter valued by Google in the desktop researches, but since July 2018 speed will become significant even in the mobile queries.
This gets you think about how mobile phones are becoming the most used media by many consumers: mobile devices cannot be left out in the design of websites and especially for what is related to performance and user experience.
Google declares that contents will continue to play a major role, so a slow web page may still rank highly if it has relevant content. The speed update has the purpose of improving the user experience and it will affect only the slowest websites, by influencing a small percentage of queries.
Google does not offer any resource to webmasters but recommends the use of tools like LightHouse and PageSpeed Insights to measure your website performance and be prepared at best for the change.
